Are Billboards Expensive?

Published by

Billboards are not necessarily expensive, and advertisers with varying budgets have the power to rent their own billboard space.

With a variety of billboards comes a variety of prices, but there are other important factors that influence the price tag of a board, such as location, size and visibility.

Due to the range of billboard prices, small business owners to large corporations can buy a billboard to promote their products and services.

The type of billboard has a heavy influence on pricing. Digital bulletins are one of the most expensive mediums to buy, with prices often around $2,500 per month. Large traditional billboards are more likely to net you a price at around $3,500 per month. Posters and junior (small billboards) can have a price between $600 – $1,500, but are often sold as packages.

The location of a billboard will heavily influence the amount of money that needs to be spent. The price to rent a billboard in downtown Los Angeles is far higher than renting a billboard in rural Ohio. Rates are generally based on the increase in population density. The closer billboards are to urban areas, the higher the cost. In addition, freeway billboards will often cost more than highway billboards, because of the higher traffic that is experienced on freeways.

Size is an important element, too. The bigger the billboard, the more of an impression it will make, which ensures a larger impact on the consumer. Besides the cost of renting, it is also more expensive to produce and put up.

Another factor that influences the cost of a billboard is overall visibility. It is ideal to purchase a billboard that is one the right side of the road instead of the left side. It is easier to read a billboard that’s on the same side of the road as you as opposed to having to gaze across lanes. Due to this, billboards that are located on the right side of the road are more likely to be priced higher.
