Client Spotlight: Evangeline Hundley for Congress

Published by

Running for Congress in the 5th Congressional District of South Carolina, Evangeline Hundley has a vision to make the people healthier, wealthier, and wiser.

With a campaign focused on healthcare for all, living wages, paid family leave, universal pre-K, and free public college education, she plans to fight for the right to vote, and womens’ rights.

“We need to invest in our people and communities, and I will vote for those policies and others that restore and rebuild our working families, and the middle class,” she said in an email. “I’m running so the citizens of the 5th Congressional District no longer accept mediocrity and no longer accept ‘no’ as the final answer.”

Hundley believes in the “golden rule,” which is to treat everyone as you wish to be treated. She prioritizes her faith, as well as the wellbeing of her family, friends, and community that she will serve.

“Equality, fairness, progress and peace are the hallmarks of making South Carolina a better state to live, work, worship and play,” she said.

Three major points she’s hoping to focus on are lack of healthcare access, affordability, and outcomes in South Carolina; protection of voting rights and womens’ rights; and living wages for working families.

Hundley will advocate for the opening of Medicaid Exchanges, and work to pass universal healthcare like Medicare for All.

“As a US Congresswoman, to protect our citizens and our human rights, I will vote for the immediate passage of HR1 (now S1), for the People Act, and HR4 John Lewis Voting Rights Act,” she said. “To restore women’s reproductive rights, I will vote to codify Roe v Wade so it is the law of the land.”

Hundley described South Carolina as “a poverty-driven, right-to-work state [that] maintains the current minimum wage of $7.25/hr.” As Congresswoman, she said she will vote for bills to include raising the minimum wage to at least $15/hr, with paid family leave offered and childcare tax credit permanent.

“In the November 2022 election, our entire democracy is at stake,” she said. “For South Carolinians, our entire well-being is at stake. We must ensure everyone gets out to vote. I invite anyone who is ready to build a better SC and be healthier, wealthier, and wiser to join

our campaign by canvassing, knocking on doors, and making phone calls. Your

vote is your power!”
